Meh, just the fact that a well known trance artist score top position on the dutch album chart is a big step for the entire scene. Same thing with Tiësto Djing on the Olympics opening.

It's all in the greater scheme of taking over the world.

Yes but armin isnt a well known trance artist, he's a well known pop artist with trancy influences.

Eh, did you recently discover trance?

To namedrop a few tracks: Blue Fear, Communication, Sound of Goodbye, Exhale, Eternity.

He might have been going further down the pop-road recently, but saying that armin is a pop artist with trancy influences is both ignorant and stupid.

Anyway it's much harder to make a decent pop track than a decent trance track.

armin is a pop artist with trancy influences.
there
the fact that he released some trancey stuff in the past millenium does not change the fact that he is nothing but a pop artist -now-. as it is an "Imagine" album that is top1 not "76".

only pop can be more popular than rock in the world of commerce.

Disagree, this CD could very well stray a bit from trance, but it don't change the fact that Armin is considered to be one of the most influential people in the trance-scene since 1996. Hence, clearly defines him as a trance artist in my book.

And could we please refrain from using the term "pop", it's not a genre - it's a definition of popularity.

Quote:
Pop music is music charted by the number or sales, plays, etc., that the work receives. It is not a particular genre or style of music, simply that which is the most popular for the tracked period of time.

I have to agree with Tommie... Armin has always been a Trance DJ/Producer, and now having some influences from other genres. So what?
You can always combine Electro and Trance, Techno and Trance, and even Rock & Trance (many Trance Producers remixed Rock songs..) and etc..
But hey, saying it's a pure POP album is really something stupid.
Although the album includes a lot of vocals, it does not mean it's Pop! We always enjoyed listening to Vocal Trance tracks, and I find the vocal tracks of "Imagine" are "good" (they might not beat other vocal trance classics..But hey, Trance music changed, admit it), and I'm sure the remixes that will be released later on will be satisfy even more the real Trance heads.

Pop is ALWAYS more popular, it's a definition of POPularity. Nothing else. A bit off-topic, but people need to learn some day that pop don't define a genre, it defines something that widely popular based on charts.

Let me rephrase then, he is a pop artist with trance roots.

And no I didn't discover trance just last week

oh tommie please. you perfectly understand what Pop stands for apart from the "academic" meaning. Pop is something Madonna and Robbie Williams make. and Armin's album is his try to fit in amongst them and nothing more. though a successful one.

there is no such thing as vocal trance. including vocals in trance was a move to please pop crowd and make the genre closer to them. especially with such emo texts about love which is a standard in pop.

you can also combine Pop and Trance. and that's what Armin did here. Pop Trance with a bigger Pop part. I'm still surprised to see Armin's fans living in a sweet fantasy believing that Armin didn't leave trance years ago - and because of this and also because he released some trance records long time ago they will label anything with Armin's name on it - trance.

Like i said earlier, its off topic and i now realize that it was a stupid move by me to bring it up as it undeniably diverted your attention. So, to get you back on topic, i'll repost my previous statement and remove any pop-related comments:

Disagree, this CD could very well stray a bit from trance, but it don't change the fact that Armin is considered to be one of the most influential people in the trance-scene since 1996. Hence, clearly defines him as a trance artist in my book.

Good job for him, hate him or like him, he's helping spread trance music through the world.

The album is not exactly the best. It's one of the few disappointments of this year including the one from Sander van Doorn.
