The Auranaut - People Want To Be Needed 2005
Another remake? This might be the thought of many trancelovers when checking out this title. The past years we have been bombed with remakes, remixes, updates and re-re-re-reworks of reworks. Shortly said, creativity seems to be on an alltime love in the trance industry and most of these remakes aint worth listening at all. Luckily there are some positive exceptions of the rule, cause Plastic Boy - Twixt 2004 was one hell of a tune. The Auranaut - People Want To Be Needed was a massive hit back in the days with plays by Oakenfold, Tiesto and a whole load of other jocks. Ever since then it remains one of the most sought after vinyls till this date. Graham Dear is The Auranaut and he's currently running Power Circle Records, a recordlabel in London. He decided to update his hit in a couple of new mixes, mostly available digitally on sites like Beatport etc. Stupid choice or miracle rework? Here's the verdict.
Ehab Mix
The Ehab Mix is a mix which is pretty close to the Original Mix, but polishes all the aspect that could use a little update. The pace and power is slightly increased, but without going into cheesy territory. The enchanting vocals and kickass vocal sample of the tune are still present, but are packed in an updated form of punchy beats and atmospheric sounds. The tune almost doesn't have any breakdowns, but rolls on like an unstoppable train. Excellent to keep your crowd dancing and the hypnotising effect increases every minute you listen to it. Awesome!
More Than Anything Else Mix
Strange name for a mix you might think, but it clearly points to the vocal sample More Than Anything Else which appears quite frequently in this mix. The MTAE mix focuses on a dirtier electro-ish bassline, very upbeat yet flavoured with atmospheric sounds. Again very hypnotising and deep. The tune has a little sniff of a goa feel, but can excellently fit in any tranceset, especially starting out can set a fantastic dark and moody atmosphere on the dancefloor!
Original Mix
The track that catapulted the name Auranaut into eternal trance history. The ethnic sounding vocal and mysterious feel of the tune defined the underground sound of trance back in the days. DJ Tiesto used it to open his Magik 7 CD with it, but by then it was already a classic. Released on Barracuda in the end nineties it build up a reputation as superstarter for a long and exciting trance journey. The bassline sounds a bit dated nowadays, but in terms of excitement and mystery, it still blasts most trancetunes away nowadays!
Sunrise Mix
A superb downtempo version of the tune and it's just as good as the other mixes. Fantastic dreamy sounds float through your headphones, taking chilling out to a different level. Four minutes of pure joy, what a breathtaking mix!
Conclusion
I haven't been so excited about a release since weeks and while you may not see it on many playlist till now, it's a very worthy purchase. The Auranaut perfectly translates the beloved sound of the nineties to the modern standards of trancemusic. But still the feel and style is so unique and outstanding.. it's a shame we don't have more producers like Graham Dear out there! Full score. Get this tune NOW!
