Lange Feat. Tracey Carmin - Happiness Happening 2009
Updated: Saturday 31st, October 2009
Not even pausing to blink after the release of his latest single "Let It All Out" with Sarah Howells, Lange keeps his foot on the throttle by releasing his new remix of the 90's trance classic "Happiness Happening," originally produced by Lost Witness. Perhaps taking a page or two from his Oceanlab remix, Lange delivers a much smoother and more nostalgic remix. Lange also includes the 1999 mix and as most of you already know, it is a soft, hypnotic affair that epitomizes what trance stood for at the turn of the millenium. A further look explains more.
2009 Mix
Trippy percs, lush synths and playful blips dominate from the start. A driving progressive bassline adds some needed energy and the vocals add a haunting yet calm feeling to the tune. Soaring saws take us from the verse to the breakdown, the latter of which is magical. The soft rhodes and Tracey's voice paint a smile on your face and the pads top it off nicely. A lead similar to the original soon filters in, accompanied by some low synth stabs. The track builds similarly to the original and the chorus has much of the same vibe. The chorus soon fades and the track dives into a second verse, also in similarity to the 1999 mix. The vocals soon return and the chorus as well. Overall an amazing remix, packed with mysterious and emotional overtones. Fans of the older Lange sound will definitely appreciate this.
1999 Mix
The now raw-sounding original is a hallmark of 1999 trance, featuring simple percs, rich atmosphere and tons of supersaws. The track is a bit more upbeat and the bassline is much simpler but the atmosphere is simply magical. The breakdown features playful blips and rich string pads. The vocals are hypnotic and smooth, leading into the buildup and chorus. The lead that filters in again has been used in the new remix and it fits in both tracks perfectly. Haunting and catchy, the track peaks really nicely. The track strips down and begins to build back up, starting from the kick, filtered plucks and bass and moves on from there. A second breakdown shorter than the first emerges and builds into a proportionately shorter chorus. The track quickly dissipates from thereon.
Conclusion
A fantastic rework of a classic, the new remix can't be flawed. I also find it great that Lange released the 1999 remix as well for those who may have missed out. Although the package is small, I feel that no other mixes were necessary. 5/5
