Polymental - Chapter One
Polymental are 2 Estonian producers, who joined forces in February of 2007 after working together on another track "Invisible Touch"(also on Flutterspark) After having such great success with this single they decided to start producing and remixing together, and hence this inaugural release titled 'Chapter One'.
The track is receiving some severe attention at the moment through the completely massive Mark Sherry Outburst interpretation and here we have one Scottish talent that has been nothing more than 'on-fire' for the last 18 months, playing recently at the much coveted 'Trance Energy' in Holland. Armin is all over it like the proverbial rash, and after hearing it smash Gods Kitchen to pieces the other week its plain and simple to see why.
You would have to call it driving tech-trance and from the off we are treated to the piano led intro, a short stop tour down a classical road before it picks itself up and pounds the dancefloor with some clever drum patterns and shots. There is a sublime and clever use of an extra shuffling drumbeat on every few bars giving the track additional energy and spark, it stands out that's for sure. The track builds smartly over a couple of leads, getting to a crescendo of noises and swirls before we are off again, leading towards the all important mid-break. The classical lead piano once again fills the room, this time over an awesome breakbeat and it leaves you very much smiling. A few bars of this before the pads herald the swirling build up to crescendo, and we are back into driving melodic filthy tech-trance of the very highest order, which works the dancefloor into frenzy, everytime.
The Original mix keeps the classical piano of course, and if anything heads down a more electro path. If I'm truly honest it doesn't really stand out -You just can help but feel its trying to emulate almost every good trance/electro track out there. It doesn't offend though, Its not a bad effort and its all centred around the awesome piano so overall not bad. Finally the DNS Chillout mix does exactly what it says on the tin, and makes you erm chillout lol. There's wave sounds and even some birds singing, the piano is stripped back, delicate patterns and neat strings and on listening I most certainly did reach that 'special place' you go to where all is peaceful and tranquil..
Conclusion
All in all an excellent release with Sherry's outburst mix the pick of the crop.
POLYMENTAL 'Chapter One' (Mark Sherry's outburst mix) 5/5
POLYMENTAL 'Chapter One' (Original mix) 3/5
POLYMENTAL 'Chapter One' (DNS chillout mix) 3/5
